Ray S. Lowe, Senior Pastor

“Pastor Ray” has been serving as the Senior Pastor at Bahama Baptist Church since 2004. His primary role as Pastor is to lead this congregation to meet the five purposes of the church as given in the New Testament of the Bible:

  • Glorify God in worship.
  • Reach the lost through evangelism.
  • Equip believers through discipleship.
  • Accept believers into membership.
  • Touch lives through ministry and missions.

Personal:

Ray is originally from Nashville, Tennessee.  He met his wife, Robin, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.  They have been married since 1993 and have two wonderful boys: Jonathan, born in 1995 and Michael, born in 1997.

Education and Background:

Ray served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years before retiring in 1998.  He spent the majority of his time on nuclear submarines.

After working in the steel mill industry for a few years, Ray answered the call of God to enter into the ministry.  In preparation for vocational ministry, Ray studied at NC State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned his Master of Divinity degree.

Passion:

The Lord has instilled in Ray a deep love for both teaching and preaching, with a heart-felt passion for education and discipleship.  He has a burden for more Christians to grow spiritually through both personal and group study of the Bible.

In Pastor Ray’s own words, spoken at his installation service as the new Senior Pastor:

“This church will always be a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching, Bible-preaching church; without apology and without exception.”

Ray is a pastor who is conservative in theology, yet progressive in helping the church to find new and creative ways to reach today’s world with the message of salvation that comes through Jesus Christ.

Other interesting facts:

Pastor Ray loves to play golf.  Several men from the church play together on a regular basis.  Although his game is not as good as he hopes it will someday be, Ray continues to work at it.

As a proud graduate of NC State University, Ray often finds himself in the minority when it comes to allegiance to college sports teams (Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill are the two local teams).

Although Ray spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy, he cannot swim!

Ladies, if you really want to get on his good side, Pastor Ray dearly loves meatloaf and banana pudding.
